So, I wanted to discuss 'better'. What is better? Think it over for a minute, I'm serious. What does better mean to you? Now, keep it in your mind. Here is what Dictionary.com has to say about it:
adjective, compar. of good with best as superl.
1.
of superior quality or excellence: a better coat; a better speech.
2.
morally superior; more virtuous: They are no better than thieves.
3.
of superior suitability, advisability, desirability, acceptableness, etc.; preferable: a better time for action.
4.
larger; greater: the better part of a lifetime.
5.
EXPAND
improved in health; healthier than before.
Most of these are compared with things. Let's take a look at number 2:
2.
morally superior; more virtuous: They are no better than thieves.
But what does it REALLY mean? Think hard. Don't we all have weaknesses and strengths? This is the way I see it; Pretend b=bad and g=good now, look at our bars in life:
ggggggggggbbbbbbbbbb
This has 10 b's and 10 g's. Now, look at this:
gbgbgbgbgbgbgbgbgbgb
It still has 10 b's and 10 g's. Does this make the second one different from the first? In a way. They are out of order, but the letters and amounts are still the same. Does this make the second one worse than the first? No, they are the same. Does it make it better? No, again, they contain the same information. This is how each of us is. Some are the first, and some the latter. Some are so different, most aren't like them. These are examples of how we all are. WE ARE EQUAL!!! I cannot stress this point enough. This dictionary statement;
2.
is part false and part true. But it is only false because we warp the information in our own minds. No one told us to believe it the way we do. Some have a better sense of what it means than others, and some take it the totally wrong way.
morally superior; more virtuous: They are no better than thieves.
Now, let's explore this psychological tendency of ours. Why do we believe that one has to be better? Is it because one is more popular? Maybe. Let's look back to the dictionary definitions. Remember, none of these but the second one have much to do with a person's character, but more physical achievements. We CAN be better--not compared to other people--but to who we were before we progressed. Why, then, do we do this?
As humans, we are all competitive by nature. We crave competition, because we believe it makes us better when we use it, which it does, but only when used as a positive energy, and this is when it starts to get tricky. Life is all about balance, and if we lean too far one direction, we fall off the scale. We must be careful, and judge well, so we don't take things too far. I could choose to be jealous of Mikiki and her extremely loooong story--and I am--but only in a positive way. It makes me so jealous that I have resolved to work harder. THAT is productive. THAT is what gets you farther in life.
Now, once again, lets look at some letters. The key is still the same.
g bbbb g bb g b g bb g g g g bb gg
Notice, there are spaces--big gaps--between good deeds. Does this make them worse? No, because eventually they all equal the same. It only means that some are slower than others. That means--yup--you are the same as that weirdo you saw the other day.
Now, look at Hitler. This may sound way bizarre, but originally he was not a bad person. He was the same as you. It is very scary to face, but to become the kind of person we are all eventually to be, we must grow. And to grow, we must face what is hard for us to face. What happened, I cannot say. Now, are we better than him? In some ways, yes, in others, no. Yes, I know it is hard, but be honest. In the end, we will be, if we try. But not now. Don't count your eggs until your all your chicks have hatched. Don't celebrate too soon--but celebrate the little steps--and DON'T ever turn your nose up at someone who needs help. If you do, it pulls you back to where you were before.
So, to make a long story short--we are all the same in the beginning, no one is better now, and eventually we can all be better (unless we stop trying).
I hope it makes sense, and I am sorry you had to read this, as you have wandering eyes. I know, it hurt my head too. But I felt the need to write it. So, I did. Just remember, no one is better, and that is okay. Just be sure that your letter combination stays the way it should--weird and original--just like you!
Thanks so much for bothering to read my boring junk that I am not sure even I understand. Hopefully something good comes of it, and it makes you a BETTER person. xD
~Evening Star
This isn't boring at all! And it's definitely NOT junk! I swear, Evening Star (or Annie, whichever one works), this is amazing. And you prove the best point in a really unique way. I've never, ever, looked at it that way! I'm not kidding - I see life at a slightly different angle now, like a camera has tilted a little to the side to reveal more of a big picture. Keep writing on this blog - It's AMAZING!
ReplyDeleteFellow writer here (and a friend of Mikiki's also)! This blog is amazingness. :3 None of this is 'junk' like you say (and definitely not as bad as some of what I write. o.e Ugh) Remember: keep posting to this blog. Please. It's awesome. :D

Mikki: I don't really care what you call me [as long as it isn't demeaning! ;)] I still think it is junk. Just because I came up with it on the spur of the moment because I was desperate to think of something to write. xD
ReplyDeleteBeth (not really): Hehe. You're too kind, but my comment to Mikiki still applies here.
But thanks anyway guys. :D
Like, SERIOUSLY, Annie, (I'll call you Annie) you're going WAY too hard on yourself. Grrrr... you really anger me!!
